Wisconsin Officials: Racine’s Rash of Fires May be Arson
Law enforcement officials in Racine are investigating whether a serial arsonist is behind a rash of suspicious fires on the south side of the city and in Mount Pleasant.
The Journal Times of Racine reports that since June 6, police and firefighters have responded to seven suspicious fires at vacant or unoccupied homes or garages in the area.
The fires have been in a specific area and many of them have started very late at night. Mount Pleasant Police Capt. Brian Smith says it has the hallmarks of a serial arsonist.
While police officials say they are investigating the possibility that the fires are connected, they are also not ruling out other possibilities.
The most recent fire was Tuesday in a garage in Mount Pleasant.
