Missouri Reservoirs out of Flood Control Zone

The Army Corps of Engineers says that all Missouri River reservoirs are now out of the “flood control” zone, with the Fort Randall reservoir in South Dakota being the last to drop below that level.

The zone is the top 6 percent of storage available in the reservoir system. It holds enough water to cover 4.7 million acres 1 foot deep. Jody Farhat with the corps says having the reservoirs out of that zone is a milestone in this summer’s flood fight, though the fight isn’t over.

River levels are dropping in the Dakotas as dam releases are lowered. The spillway gates at Garrison Dam in North Dakota were fully closed on Wednesday.
