Inspector Still Faces Lawsuit Over Fatal Iowa Fire
The estate of an Iowa woman killed in a 2009 fire has dropped its lawsuit against all but one defendant.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the estate of Mackenzie Blandau will now only pursue its lawsuit against The Building Inspectors of Huxley. Court records show the company was contracted to inspect rental properties for the city of Hampton.
Blandau was among two people killed in the February 2009 blaze at an apartment building. Five other people were hurt.
The Blandau estate’s lawsuit says the inspector failed to report safety deficiencies. It had also named the owner and former owner of the building as defendants but those claims were dropped.
Two other lawsuits have been filed over the fire. A trial on all the cases is set for April.
