Michigan Lawmakers Advance Motorcycle Helmet Law
The House Transportation Committee on Wednesday approved bills that would allow riders 21 or older to go without helmets if they meet certain training or experience conditions.
The measures advance to the House floor. A similar bill has passed the Senate.
Gov. Rick Snyder did not appear interested in considering the motorcycle helmet law on its own when it passed the Senate this summer. But he has indicated he might consider the helmet law as part of a broader legislative package related to auto insurance.
The Legislature has passed bills to get rid of the state’s mandatory motorcycle helmet law before but the measures were vetoed twice by then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
