Insurer Sues Former Iowa College Administrator
The insurance company that paid Drake University’s theft claim has filed a lawsuit against the former Drake administrator who stole the money.
The Des Moines Register reports that Employers Mutual Casualty Co. filed the lawsuit this week against Robert Harlan. He was director of student accounts at Drake.
In September, Harlan pleaded guilty to stealing the money over a five-year period from the Des Moines school. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced Nov. 8.
Court documents show the insurer has paid the university more than $616,000 to cover Harlan’s theft.
Harlan and his attorney didn’t immediately return calls Thursday from The Associated Press.
