Missouri Couple Indicted for 2001 Fire That Killed Son
A St. Louis, Mo., man and his ex-wife face federal indictment for allegedly burning down their home in 2001, a blaze that killed their 15-year-old son.
The indictments of 53-year-old Steven Henry Kemper and 55-year-old Sandra Kay Bryant were announced Monday. Neither had a listed phone number or an attorney.
Prosecutors allege that the former husband and wife were involved in several schemes to defraud insurance companies, including arsons of two residences in 1997 and 1999 and of the home in Florissant in November 2001.
Zach Kemper died in the 2001 fire.
Bryant and Kemper are charged with aiding and abetting the use of fire to commit mail fraud. She is also charged with using fire to commit mail fraud. Both could receive up to life in prison if convicted.
