Central Indiana Church Goes Up in Flames
Flames whipped by strong winds have destroyed a central Indiana church.
About 30 members of the Yountsville Community Church had just begun services Sunday morning when someone noticed smoke, and they evacuated the building. All escaped without injury.
Crawfordsville Fire Department Inspector Mark Evans says flames already were coming through the roof when firefighters arrived. Winds at the time were as strong as 20 mph.
The Crawfordsville Journal-Review reports the church dating to 1842 was one of the oldest in Montgomery County. The building was moved to its location along Indiana 32 about 50 miles northwest of Indianapolis about 40 years ago. It says the building was insured.
The newspaper reports one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was released after hospital treatment.
