Nebraska Asks Feds for $16M for Flood-damaged Roads
Nebraska says this year’s flooding along the Missouri and Platte rivers caused about $20 million damage to roads, and the state is asking the federal government to pick up most of the tab.
The Nebraska Department of Roads has submitted a report to the Federal Highway Administration for $16.6 million. That would cover the damage to federal aid routes, which include interstates, highways and some county roads.
The Lincoln Journal Star says state officials say the request is the largest ever made by the roads department for flood damage to roads.
Most of the damaged roads were in Knox, Cedar, Washington, Douglas, Cass, Otoe, Nemaha and Richardson counties along the Missouri River.
