Owners of Kansas Apartments Sue Over Fatal Fire
The owners of a Lawrence apartment complex are suing their insurance company over payments for claims from a fire that killed three people in 2005.
Attorneys for the owners of the former Boardwalk Apartments allege in their lawsuit that State Auto Property and Casualty Insurance of Ohio should have paid an additional $1 million in claims.
The lawsuit was filed last week in federal court in Kansas City, Kan.
The Oct. 7, 2005 killed three residents of the complex. Another resident, Jason Allen Rose, is serving a 10-year sentence for aggravated arson and three counts of involuntary manslaughter.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Boardwalk owners in 2009 settled a $12 million lawsuit with fire victims.
A spokesman for State Auto said Wednesday the company won’t comment on ongoing litigation.
