High School Student Injured in 6-Story Fall at Michigan State
A high school student was critically injured after accidentally falling from a sixth-floor window while playing a game of catch with friends at a Michigan State University dorm, authorities said Monday.
The 18-year-old from Ann Arbor crashed through the glass and fell at North Case Hall on the East Lansing campus about 3 a.m. Sunday and was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for treatment, police said.
The student, Alexandra Pew, was hospitalized Monday in critical condition, hospital spokesman John Foren said. Details about her injuries weren’t immediately released.
Campus police said the accident is under investigation and they found no indications of suspicious activity.
Pew, who was visiting the campus, was playing a game of catch in a dorm lounge when she fell and broke through the glass, Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said Monday.
Michigan State freshman Ustina Shives told WILX-TV that she heard the sound of breaking glass and realized that someone had fallen. She called for help.
“She landed on her back. She was still for a moment and then she started moving,” Shives said.
