Southern Indiana County Spends $825K on Tornado Cleanup
A southern Indiana county hard-hit by March tornadoes has spent $825,000 just to clear out streams clogged with storm debris.
The News and Tribune reports that the Clark County Commissioners approved invoices for the stream cleanup work that’s being funding by a federal grant.
Commissioner Les Young says some of the cleanup costs have already been paid, but the county is responsible for coming up with a 25 percent match in funding.
The county has submitted cleanup costs to the Federal Emergency Management Agency that have totaled more than $1.5 million.
Certified public accountant and county consultant Jill Oca says there’s still an estimated $300,000 worth of work yet to be done on more permanent repairs, including fixing storm-damaged roads.
