Arson Seen in Blaze at Former Michigan Fire Department Headquarters
Michigan authorities say they suspect an arsonist set a blaze that broke out in the former headquarters of the Highland Park Fire Department.
The fire was burning Sunday afternoon at the former fire station. It’s is across the street from the location of the Detroit enclave’s planned new headquarters.
Fire Sgt. Marlon Walton tells WWJ-AM that the fire is one of three suspicious blazes in the city in the past day.
Highland Park is an impoverished community of about 12,000, surrounded by Detroit and also bordering the city of Hamtramck.
The Highland Park public schools operate under a state-appointed emergency financial manager.
