NWS Says Tornado Near South Dakota Town Rated EF-2
The National Weather Service has rated a tornado that touched down near Ardmore in southwestern South Dakota last week an EF-2.
The Rapid City Journal reports that that rating is considered “strong” on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which rates tornadoes from 1 to 5 based on the damage they cause.
Friday’s tornado touched down between Edgemont and Ardmore and traveled east. The tornado destroyed a barn and several sheds on a ranch north of Ardmore.
A damage survey estimated the tornado’s winds between 110 and 120 miles per hour. Its track length was at least 8 miles long and about a half-mile wide.
