Flooded South Dakota Golf Course May Not Reopen This Year
A Pierre, S.D., golf course that was extensively damaged by Missouri River flooding last year may not be able to open this year either.
Pierre parks director Tom Farnsworth says the recovery of the Hillsview golf course is being set back by this summer’s oppressive heat. He says the grass is patchy.
Course superintendent Dean Heymans says there’s been a lot of reseeding, watering and weeding, and things look better, but there’s still a lot of work to do.
Heymans says it’s hard to make grass grow during a drought.
Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill tells the Pierre Capitol Journal that golfers have been patient. She says golfers have told her they want the course reopened until it’s in good shape.
