Cause Uncertain for Southwest Indiana Shopping Center Fire
A fire official says arson isn’t suspected in a weekend blaze that destroyed a shopping center in southwestern Indiana that included nine businesses and a church.
The fire reported early Saturday in Newburgh burned through the center’s roof and left only a few of its walls standing in the town just east of Evansville.
Newburgh Assistant Fire Chief Chad Bennett tells WFIE-TV that the insurance company will turn over its reports to the state fire marshal’s office before a ruling is made on the fire’s cause.
Egan’s Framing owner Jeanne Egan says she wasn’t able to salvage much from her store and lost several items that were being framed for customers.
