Nebraska Woman Convicted of Attempted Insurance Fraud
A 51-year-old York, Neb., woman has been convicted of attempted insurance fraud.
The York News-Times says Susan Schulz pleaded no contest on Tuesday. Schulz faces up to five years in prison when she’s sentenced on March 21.
Prosecutors say Schulz called the York County Sheriff’s Department in September to report that her house had been broken into while she was gone. She said painkillers, a DVD player, a laptop computer, $1,200 in cash, jewelry, an Xbox and a camera had been taken.
The investigator became suspicious because the house wasn’t ransacked. Prosecutors say that when the investigator contacted Schulz’s insurance company, a company representative said Schulz had called five days earlier to report that she was missing $2,500 in cash, an Xbox and a laptop computer.
