96 Fire Departments to Share in $2M Grant Money
Nearly 100 fire departments across Illinois will get a boost with new equipment, protective gear or other tools.
Gov. Pat Quinn announced Tuesday that 96 departments will share a $2 million grant. The money comes through small equipment grants and funded through a percentage of fire insurance sold in the state. The Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal distributes the money.
In a statement Quinn says the fire departments big and small deserve all the help they can get because they keep communities safe.
The fire marshal received 271 grant applications. Those selected to receive funds include fire departments in Tamms, DeKalb, Decatur and Collinsville.
