Nebraska Tourist Train Halted Over Faulty Tracks
Poor track conditions have led the Nebraska Railroad Museum to suspend Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad tourist excursions for the season.
Museum director Dennis Wallen tells the Fremont Tribune that several sections of the track do not meet Federal Railroad Administration standards for safe operation. Wallen said that determination followed a recent inspection of the track by the federal administration.
The museum, which is the parent nonprofit that operates the railroad, remains open for special occasions, such as John C. Fremont Days and special tours.
The Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad normally operates during the summer months on 17 miles of track from Fremont to Hooper, using passenger rail cars dating from the 1920s.
