Iowa Car Dealerships Say Dozens of Air Bags Stolen
Car dealership owners in central Iowa say dozens of air bags were stolen during a weekend burglary at multiple locations.
Des Moines television station WOI-TV reports nearly 70 cars were broken into at dealerships in Ankeny and Pleasant Hill. The cost is estimated at $69,000.
Dealership owners say Illinois State Police contacted them and said arrests had been made in Chicago. The air bags have been recovered, but it will be some time before they’re returned.
Authorities told dealership owners that the suspects had been on a spree in Illinois before they came to Iowa.
Dealership owners say the thieves were professional in how quickly they broke into cars and popped off the front of steering wheels.
