Public Offices Reopen in Storm-Ravaged Rapid City
Public offices are reopening in Rapid City, S.D., but schools remain closed for the day in the wake of the record-setting weekend snowstorm.
Emergency officials say both city offices and Pennington County offices are opening Tuesday. Court operations also are resuming, though no jury trials are being held. Public schools and Western Dakota Technical Institute are staying closed.
The city got nearly 2 feet of snow during the storm. Crews have been working since to get travel back to normal. The city’s airport and all major roadways in the region had reopened as of Monday.
Elsewhere in the Black Hills, utility crews are still working to restore electricity to tens of thousands of people.
