Iowa Town Organizing Tornado Cleanup on Oct. 26
Officials in Belmond, Iowa, are seeking help next week to clean up the community after a tornado damaged homes, businesses and farming operations in June. Cleanup has been delayed by wet ground in the areas near the east branch of the Iowa River.
The cleanup effort is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Volunteers will meet at the former Cattleman’s restaurant site at U.S. Highway 69.
The cleanup effort will focus on the debris left in a pasture, a wooded area and the east branch of the Iowa River.
A tornado touched down the afternoon of June 12 just outside of Belmond destroying Cattleman’s Steak and Provisions.
Volunteers will be moving debris out of the wooded area and onto trucks.
