Michigan Drivers’ Catastrophic Claims Fee to Remain $186
An agency that charges Michigan drivers for the cost of caring for people catastrophically injured in crashes says the fee they pay will remain unchanged at $186 per year.
The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association announced Wednesday that the assessment for the 12 months starting July 1 will be the same as for the current period.
The Livonia-based group collects funds to reimburse auto insurers for personal injury protection claims that exceed $530,000 per claim. It paid out $983 million in the 12 months ending June 30, 2013.
Republicans in the Legislature and Republican Gov. Rick Snyder have proposed cutting the assessment by eliminating the unlimited medical benefits that the program now provides.
