Ohio Workers’ Comp Conference to Feature Live Injury Demos
The Ohio Safety Congress & Expo 2014 (OSC14), an annual annual three-day health and workers’ compensation conference, will feature several live demonstrations of innovations designed to prevent and manage workplace accidents.
OSC14 is free and takes place March 25 – 27 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Registration is available online at bwc.ohio.gov.
Live demonstrations include:
Grain bin rescue demonstration, Tuesday, March 25, 1 p.m.
The Ohio Fire Academy’s Comprehensive Agricultural Rescue Trailer (CART) provides a demonstration of how to safely extricate trapped victims.
The ABCs of fall protection, Wednesday, March 26, 10:45 a.m.
This session provides detailed information related to the proper use and selection of fall protection equipment and will feature a live fall arrest demonstration.
Battelle Memorial Institute safety experts panel, Wednesday, March 26, 3:45 p.m.
A panel of safety and research experts from Battelle will share a number of their innovations using science to make workplaces safer. These innovations cover the areas of food and air safety, and robotics that help reduce repetitive motion, as well as fleet management.
OSHA confined space in construction, Thursday March 27, 8 a.m.
Following a brief discussion of the proposed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard for confined space in construction, instructors will demonstrate a typical confined space entry.
Emergency response to chemical spills, Thursday, March 27, 10:45 a.m.
This demonstration will show how a fire-based HazMat team responds to and handles HazMat spills and leaks at businesses and industries. The presenter shows a time shortened response from arrival to completion of the emergency response phase.
Contenders for BWC’s annual Safety Innovations Awards will also demonstrate their innovations Wednesday before awards are presented Thursday. The awards recognize Ohio businesses that have utilized BWC Safety Grants to employ innovative ergonomic and safety solutions in their workplaces.
