Chicago City Attorney Says Death Lawsuit Filed too Late

June 5, 2014

An attorney for the city of Chicago has argued that a lawsuit filed by the mother of a man killed in a 2004 altercation with the nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley should be dropped.

Nanci Koschman filed suit against the city and police officers in March in connection with the 2004 death of her son, David Koschman. The Chicago Sun-Times reports attorney Vincent J. Connelly asks in a Tuesday court filing that the city and 21 police officers be dropped from the case.

Connelly says Nanci Koschman waited too long to sue. Daley’s nephew, Richard J. Vanecko, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and served a 60-day sentence. David Koschman died after he fell and struck his head during a fight with Vanecko outside a Chicago bar.
