Indiana Day Care Sued After Boy’s Hanging Death
A mother is suing the owner of a northern Indiana day care center where her 5-year-old son died after accidentally hanging himself with a jump rope.
The lawsuit filed by Anita Leflore argues that workers at Tricia’s Playhouse in Michigan City failed to properly supervise her son and inspect the center’s outdoor play area.
The LaPorte County coroner ruled Amareon Williams died June 9 from asphyxiation after getting caught in a jump rope left hanging over an outdoor play fort at the day care about 30 miles west of South Bend.
Leflore tells WSJV-TV she still can’t understand Amareon’s death and wakes up at night crying.
The Associated Press left a telephone message seeking comment at the day care, which has been ordered closed by state officials.
