Flood Insurance Workshops Planned in Nebraska City
Flood insurance workshops will be held this week for residents of the small northeast Nebraska city of Pilger who want to rebuild after a June tornado destroyed much of the town.
Flooding rules have complicated rebuilding plans for many Pilger residents because new homes built in the town can’t have basements.
Pilger has been in a flood plain since 2004, so every resident who wanted to rebuild there will have to make sure the lowest level of their home is at least one foot above the likely flood level, which is sometimes referred to as a 100-year flood.
One workshop was held Wednesday evening at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. The workshop will be repeated at the church Saturday morning at 10.
