AAI Commends Sen. Hatch for Introduction of Asbestos Reform Bill
The Alliance of American Insurers (AAI) commended Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) for introducing a much-anticipated asbestos reform proposal, the “Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act of 2003” and pledged to work closely with him and others involved in the process to ensure asbestos reform legislation is passed this year.
“The Alliance applauds Sen. Hatch for his strong and committed leadership, and for his tireless effort to resolve America’s asbestos litigation crisis,” said Rodger Lawson, Alliance president. “He has displayed a tremendous dedication to moving this process forward.
“The Alliance will work for passage of asbestos legislation this year. We believe reasonable asbestos reform legislation can win bipartisan support in Congress.”
Lawson reminded Congress of the urgency associated with the issue: “The asbestos litigation crisis is hurting our economy at a time the nation can least afford it. It is imperative that Congress take action on asbestos this year.”
