USDA Grants $20M for Disaster Repair in 20 States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved about $20 million to help 20 states rebuild and repair damage caused by flooding, drought, and other natural disasters.

The funds come through the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Emergency Watershed Protection program.

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the funding Tuesday. The money is in addition to $215 million allocated earlier this year to 26 states.

The new money will fund projects in Presidential disaster areas placed on a wait list. Projects can include removing debris clogging waterways, protecting eroded stream banks, and reseeding burned or eroded areas.

California, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri and Nebraska are among the 20 states.

Also included are Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
