Ring, American Family Partner to Help Prevent Home Burglaries
Ring, inventor of the Ring Video Doorbell, an innovative, do-it-yourself home security system that enables customers to proactively protect their families, and American Family Insurance are creating a one-of-a-kind offering. The security company offers a financial guarantee on customers’ insurance deductibles if their home is burglarized.
“We’ve analyzed the results from our global customer base and proved our initial hypothesis: The Ring Video Doorbell dramatically reduces the likelihood of home break-ins,” said Jamie Siminoff, Ring’s Chief Inventor and CEO. “With this data, we can now stand behind our customers in an unprecedented way.”
According to a UNC-Charlotte Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology report, most burglars, when selecting a target, consider indicators of increased security – including alarm signs, alarms, dogs inside, and outdoor cameras or other surveillance. Some reported ringing the doorbell several times to determine if the residence was vacated.
In addition to Ring reimbursing the deductible, American Family Insurance customers will receive a $30 discount off the $199 Ring Video Doorbell. American Family customers who use smart home devices may also be eligible for the company’s Proactive Home Protection discount (up to five percent) on their homeowners, renters or condo policies. (This discount is in addition to any other eligible policy discounts.) The Ring device discount is available to all new and existing American Family Insurance home, condo, farm or ranch and rental customers.
“We’re committed to providing value to our customers beyond just helping them recover from tragedies and accidents,” said Ryan Rist, director of innovation at American Family Insurance. “We want to leverage technology and partner with companies equally committed to preventing those events from happening. We are excited to have created an industry first with Ring; our customers can voluntarily enroll in this program and have their deductibles reimbursed if burglarized.”
The Ring Video Doorbell is a Wi-Fi enabled, HD video doorbell that helps make it easier for you and your family to stay safe at home. The doorbell enables you to answer the door from anywhere using your mobile device – no matter if you’re upstairs or across town. A built-in rechargeable battery lets you install the doorbell anywhere, or connect it to existing doorbell wiring. Motion-triggered alerts sent via the free Ring app (iOS, Android and Windows 10) notify you of arriving guests, deliveries or intruders.
