Claims People: Crawford & Co., Charles Taylor and Actuarial Risk Management
Crawford & Company has reassigned several executives as part of a new organizational structure that aligns the company to three lines of business: loss adjusting, third-party administration and platform solution.
Andrew Bart assumes the new role of president, loss adjusting, international and Pat Van Bakel assumes the role of president, loss adjusting, North America. Bakel will continue in his current position as president of Crawford Canada, the Atlanta-based claims administrator said in a press release.
Mike Jones now leads Crawford’s international TPA, Broadspire, as president. Mike Hoberman assumes the role of president TPA: Broadspire, North America upon the retirement of Neil Lentine on Feb. 5.
Larry Thomas, now leads the newly created Platform Solutions as its global president. Platform Solutions global service line is comprised of unique offerings with considerable growth potential, the company said. These include Contractor Connection and the network businesses of WeGoLook, Simply Crawford, Crawford Workforce Advantage and U.S. Catastrophe Services.
Ken Tolson assumes the role of global president of the networks business unit within the Platform Solutions global service line. Charlotte von Krogh assumes the role of president of Crawford Europe.

Charles Taylor said that Kuhrt Wieneke, president of Charles Taylor Marine Technical Services – U.S., has been appointed as managing director of Charles Taylor Adjusting’s U.S. Marine division.
Wieneke joined Charles Taylor in April 2020 with the creation of Charles Taylor Marine Technical Services. CT MTS brought together the marine surveying and technical marine consultancy businesses of Bowditch Marine, Pilot Marine and the marine surveyors of Charles Taylor Adjusting U.S., as one cohesive marine surveying and consultancy service provider.
Wieneke has managed the CT MTS team of 19 professionals, including industry veteran John Poulson, operating from Charles Taylor U.S. locations in Seattle, New York, Boston, Savannah, San Francisco, Houston and Honolulu. CT MTS supports sector clients, including vessel owners and charterers, hull and machinery insurers, P&I Clubs, cargo owners and re/insurance underwriters.
Wieneke will be responsible for overseeing and managing CT MTS’s team of marine surveyors and technical consulting specialists, as well as CTA’s experienced marine adjusters, integrating the management and growth strategy of Charles Taylor’s marine businesses.
Austin, Texas-based Actuarial Risk Management has hired Marc Altschull as a senior consulting actuary.
In this newly created position, Altschull will lead an initiative offering insurance asset management solutions, as well as enhance the marketing capabilities of the firm’s actuarial services, particularly within the life insurance industry, the company said in a press release.
Altschull is experienced in life insurance consulting and risk management, having developed risk management functions for Pacific Life Insurance Company and Voya Investment Management, the company said.
Altschull serves as treasurer for CFA Society Atlanta, vice chairperson for the American Academy of Actuaries Life Valuation Committee and treasurer for the Society of Actuaries’ investment section, the company said.
