Report: Retaliation Was Most Common Form of Workplace Discrimination
Retaliation was the most common form or workplace discrimination, while Tennessee had the highest rate of workplace discrimination charges at 79 per 100,000 people, an examination of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission data shows.
The EEOC data showed Arkansas (77 charges per 100,000), Georgia (76) and Nevada (75) were among the top 10 states with the highest rates of workplace discrimination.
The data shows the average number of discrimination charges across the U.S. is 2,873 per year in each state.
The study of the EEOC data, carried out by employment law attorneys at Eldessouky Law, also identified the three most common types of discrimination faced in each state. The data analyzed EEOC’s most recent dataset on the total number of workplace discrimination charges filed in 2021. A discrimination rate was then calculated by measuring each state’s total number of charges against their respective population figure.
According to the data, retaliation was the most common form of discrimination with a total of 1,276 charges filed for this type of discrimination. This was followed by racial discrimination, which had a total of 863 charges filed in 2021, and then disability discrimination, which had a total of 819 charges filed.
