FEMA Approves $61M For Iowans Affected by Spring Flooding and Severe Storms

The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved more than $61 million for Iowa residents who experienced damage from this spring’s flooding, severe storms and tornadoes.

FEMA said has provided $56 million in Individual Assistance money to help survivors with home repairs, paying for a temporary place to live and other serious needs not covered by insurance.

In addition, FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program has paid more than $5 million in flood claims to Iowa policyholders.

More than 5,000 households have been approved for FEMA assistance.

Two-thirds of Iowa’s 99 counties were affected by record flooding and severe storms this spring. Officials said flooding, storms and tornadoes caused over $130 million in infrastructure damage.
