Peterson to Chair Okla. House Ins. Committee
Rep. Ron Peterson is the new head of a legislative panel responsible for oversight of Oklahoma’s insurance industry, according to the Oklahoma House of Representatives Media Division. House Speaker-elect Todd Hiett, R-Kellyville, recently tapped Peterson, R-Broken Arrow, to serve as the chairman of the House Insurance Committee.
“Rep. Peterson has proven leadership skills,” Hiett said. “And I am grateful to have his input and experience on this committee.”
In previous sessions the Insurance Committee has voted on legislation pertaining to all aspects of the state’s private insurance sector, from health and life insurance to property and casualty.
Peterson, who was recently elected to his third term in the state House, has served as a member of the committee for two years. He said he was honored to be chosen for the position and eager to get to work.
“It is a great privilege to be picked to lead this committee, and there is a lot of responsibility associated with the job,” Peterson said. “This presents an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with our insurance community to improve the affordability of all insurance products.”
The first session of the 50th state Legislature convenes Feb. 7, 2005.
