LDI Web Site a Primary Source for Hurricane Katrina Recovery Information
The Louisiana Department of Insurance is updating daily important information regarding recovery from Hurricane Katrina, including company contact information, on the department’s Web site at www.ldi.state.la.us.
Included on the site are draft directives from LDI’s Sept. 1 Atlanta summit with insurance companies, as well as other information, such as the department’s own e-mail contact information and advice for consumers affected by the storm.
If consumers don’t have a company name or can’t reach anyone, they can call LDI toll-free at 1-800-259-5300 or 225-342-5900 (or 225-342-1258 for the property/casualty division). The department is open for extended hours during the week and partial days on weekends.
LDI’s hotline staff is working with the department’s databases to help callers find agent and company contact information.
The department is advising consumers to make temporary repairs to their property, keep receipts, and take lots of before, after and at-the curb (wet carpet, ruined appliances) photos to help adjuster piece together the insured’s situation.
