ICT Joins Mesquite Police on Crime Prevention Program
The Insurance Council of Texas and the Mesquite (Texas) Police Department have joined together in a crime prevention program aimed at reducing automobile burglaries.
The program involves the creation and implementation of signs that read, “LOCK your door, TAKE your keys, HIDE your belongings.”
The signs will be distributed through out Mesquite to remind motorists what they can do to protect themselves from becoming a crime victim.
The Mesquite Police Department initially plans to place the signs at Town East Mall that holds 8,000 parking spaces, along restaurant row on Interstate 635 and at various apartment complexes.
“These signs serve two purposes,” said Officer Don Williams, head of the Mesquite Police Department’s Crime Prevention Office. “They show criminals that we know these parking areas are potential sights for them to hit and we’ll be watching. The signs also remind drivers of their responsibility to do what they can do to protect their vehicle and property.”
Officer Williams said putting up the signs now comes at an excellent time because of the start of the holiday shopping season. “With these signs and officers on the lookout, we’re going to do our best to make this a crime free shopping season in Mesquite.”
ICT Executive Director Rick Gentry said the crime prevention program promotes good common sense.
“The Insurance Council of Texas is honored to be a part of a program that urges motorists to protect their automobile and their belongings through this simple message,” Gentry said. “The signs should serve as a reminder for everyone to be aware of their surroundings when they are leaving and entering their vehicle.”
