Scruggs, Bailey to Debate Coverage in the Aftermath of Hurricanes at UT Insurance Law Institute
The Continuing Legal Education division of the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin announced that its 10th Annual Insurance Law Institute, to be held Dec. 7 – 9 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas, will include a debate between trial lawyer Richard “Dickie” Scruggs and William E. Bailey, special counsel to the Insurance Information Institute and director of the Hurricane Insurance Information Center in Jackson, Miss.
Scruggs, who is well known for his successful litigation against the tobacco industry, has this year launched litigation against major insurance companies on behalf of Gulf Coast residents.
Scruggs and Bailey will debate the rights and responsibilities of insurance companies and policyholders in light of recent lawsuits at a Dec. 8 luncheon from 12 noon -1 p.m.
In addition to the debate, the conference will offer a special two-hour panel discussion on the coverage wars after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, plus a session on business interruption coverage — in general, extensive discussion of hurricane-related issues.
For more information or to register, visit the UT CLE Web site or call (512) 475-6700.
For those who are unable to attend the event in Austin, a video replay of the program will be presented Feb. 9-10, 2006, at the Cityplace Conference Center, Dallas.
