Ark. Workers’ Comp Commission Updating 2007 Kids’ Chance Application
Kids’ Chance of Arkansas Inc. is revising the 2007 application for its annual scholarships, the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission reported. The application will be available online by mid-January. These applications and any required supporting documentation may be submitted to Kids’ Chance from March 31 to May 15 each year.
Children of employees who died as a result of a job-related accident or children of employees permanently and totally disabled in a compensable accident under the state workers’ compensation laws are eligible to apply for a scholarship from Kids’ Chance.
Dependent children must be 16 to 22 to enter the program. The death of or injury to the parent must have resulted in a decrease of family earnings, creating a risk to the applicant’s education. Students must demonstrate good academic achievement and aptitude.
Scholarship recipients can use the monetary assistance to receive an education through recognized vocational training schools, colleges, or universities.
Scholarships are funded through charitable donations, through a percentage of receipts from the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission Educational Conference, from sales of Kids’ Chance cookbooks, and from the annual golf tournament.
The Second Annual Kids’ Chance Charity Golf Tournament was held in June, 2006, at Diamante Golf Course in Hot Springs. Generous donors sponsored the luncheon preceding the tournament and provided door prizes for the awards ceremony. The tournament raised more than $15,000. The Third Annual Kids’ Chance Charity Golf Tournament will be held June 4, 2007, at Diamante.
