Okla. AG Warns Ketchum Bank Customers About ID Theft Scam
Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson recently issued a consumer alert warning customers of First State Bank in Ketchum about a scam currently being perpetrated in the area.
Edmondson issued the warning after the bank received about 10 complaints from customers who said they had received a call from someone purporting to be from the bank. The caller asks the bank customers to verify their account information.
First State Bank does not request account information over the phone. The bank has taken steps to notify their customers about the problem, and is asking customers who have received a similar call to contact the bank immediately. First State Bank’s phone number is (918) 782-3252.
“It is simply never a good idea to give out financial information over the phone unless you initiated the phone call to someone you know and are comfortable doing business with,” Edmondson said.
Edmondson said customers should also call his Consumer Protection Unit, which has statewide jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute violations of the state’s Consumer Protection Act. Anyone with information regarding suspected fraud or scams can contact the attorney general’s consumer protection hotline at (405) 521-2029.
