Bush Declares Major Disaster in 9 Missouri Counties
President Bush declared a major disaster in nine Missouri counties struck in early January by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.
The declaration makes federal money available to certain local governments and nonprofit groups for emergency work and repairs.
Bush’s announcement includes the counties of Barry, Dallas, Laclede, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Phelps, Stone, and Webster.
At least two people were killed after rare winter tornadoes touched down in southwest Missouri. Dozens of homes and commercial buildings were destroyed or damaged across the state.
