Farms, Livestock Damaged by Deadly Tornadoes
Agriculture experts say the recent string of tornadoes severely damaged Arkansas farms and livestock.
The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension said at least 200 cattle died near Melbourne, as result of the storm.
In Conway County, barns were blown down and hay bales were scattered by the twister. County extension agent Tommy Thompson said a feed mill near Atkins was destroyed, and that many chickens were left without food.
“There were poultry houses with thousands of large birds ready for market all destroyed,” Thompson said. “There were dead cattle, and one person even found a deer with legs cut off and dead in the road. We saw more, much more than expected.”
