Louisiana Continued to Add Jobs in 3Q 2007, Report Says
The number of jobs in Louisiana rose during the third quarter of 2007 by 51,855 over the third quarter of 2006, according to the “Louisiana Employment and Wages – Third Quarter 2007” report released by the Louisiana Department of Labor.
The average quarterly employment for Louisiana during the third quarter of 2007 was 1,866,442, a decrease of 0.3 percent from the second quarter of 2007, but an increase of 2.9 percent from the third quarter of 2006. Employment increased in 12 of the 20 NAICS sectors from the second quarter 2007.
Total wages increased 7.9 percent from the same period in 2006, and increased 0.4 percent from the second quarter of 2007. The average weekly wage for third quarter 2007 was $716.
This report is based on quarterly tax returns from all employers covered by unemployment insurance and consists of a listing by parish of the number employed, total number of units and total wages earned in the following sectors: agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting; mining; construction; manufacturing; utilities; wholesale trade; retail trade; transportation and warehousing; information; finance and insurance; real estate and rental and leasing; professional and technical services; management of companies and enterprises; administrative and waste services; educational services; health care and social assistance; arts, entertainment, and recreation; accommodation and food services; other services; and public administration.
