Report: Texas Refinery Violations Could Lead to Another Major Accident
A report prepared on behalf of blast victims said a Texas City BP refinery still has the same widespread safety violations that led to a deadly 2005 explosion and could result in another major accident.
The blast victims who commissioned the report object to a criminal plea deal for London-based BP PLC.
The report says BP continues to operate the refinery in violation of federal safety laws.
The federal plea deal calls for a $50 million fine and sentences the oil giant to three years’ probation for its role in the blast that killed 15 people and injured more than 170.
A BP spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
