Deadlines for Katrina, Rita Policies
Flood insurance policies are about to expire for nearly 36,300 Louisiana homeowners affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The federal government bought policies for those homeowners after the 2005 storms. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the existing group policy will not be renewed and that it is now the homeowners’ responsibility to buy and maintain their own coverage.
Coverage expires for some on October 28 and on November 23 for others.
FEMA says continued coverage is required for the homeowner who received aid, or for the current homeowner at that address, to receive future federal aid in a disaster.
