Texas Businessman Sentenced to Federal Prison on Arson Charge

Joseph Raye Stasny of Boerne, Texas, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for arson, according to U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton of the Western District of Texas.

In addition to the prison term, United States District Judge Royal Furgeson ordered that Stasny pay approximately $471,000 restitution and be placed on supervised release for a period of two years after completing his prison term.

In May, Stasny pleaded guilty to the arson charge admitting that on Sept. 5, 2007, he intentionally set fire to his restaurant, “Papa Dawggz,” located at 1022 North Main Street in Boerne, in an effort to collect insurance proceeds.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives together with the Boerne Fire Marshal’s Office, the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Boerne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney David Counts prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
