La. Judge: Property Owners Due ‘Just Compensation’
A civil court judge has sided with New Orleans residents on the 17th Street Canal, ruling that they are owed “just compensation” for land taken to improve the flood protection along the canal.
The residents sued the Orleans Levee District and the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East after the Army Corps of Engineers demanded that trees, fences and other obstructions and hazards be removed from the levee.
State District Judge Kern Reese ruled Friday that residents are entitled to “just compensation.”
