El Paso, Texas, Police Get Power to Impound Uninsured Cars
Police in El Paso, Texas, can soon impound any car they stop that isn’t insured.
The City Council approved a new ordinance July 15 giving police the power to seize any car they stop whose owner doesn’t carry liability insurance, the El Paso Times reported. There is a 90-grace period for the new law.
The ordinance, passed by a 6-2 vote, goes beyond an initial proposal to let police impound uninsured cars whose drivers were accused of DUI, reckless driving, racing or if the car was involved in a crash.
