Jury Awards Louisiana Woman $45K in Harassment Suit
A federal court jury in Louisiana has awarded a former Zachary Police Department communications supervisor $45,000 in her sexual harassment lawsuit.
The Advocate reported that Ava Wales told the jury of three women and four men that former Assistant Police Chief Glenn Spillman asked her to begin a relationship with him in December 2005 and repeated that request in July 2006.
James L. Hilburn, an attorney representing the city, told jurors that Spillman’s conduct “was reprehensible and resulted in him losing his job.”
Charles L. Dirks III, an attorney for Wales, told jurors that two other women had complained of sexual harassment from Spillman years before the two incidents with Wales.
