Downtown Hobart, Okla., Loses Business After Major Fire
Business owners in downtown Hobart, Okla., are cleaning up after a major fire over the weekend destroyed a century-old building that housed a Dollar Depot store.
Firefighters from more than a dozen departments worked four hours to contain the fire on Dec. 26 in the Kiowa County town.
City Manager Wilt Brown says the building was a total loss and that it’s not known yet how the fire started. He says he also doesn’t know how much the monetary losses from the fire will total.
Nearby businesses suffered smoke or water damage, including a drug store, the chamber of commerce offices and the town newspaper, the Hobart Chief-Democrat.
