Feds: Recalled Light Poles in Use at 22 Arkansas Sites
The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission says recalled light poles that could crack and topple are in use at 22 locations in Arkansas.
The poles, 70 feet tall or higher and weighing between a ton and four tons, were made by the now-bankrupt Whitco Co. LP in Fort Worth, Texas, the subject of a recall issued by the CPSC.
A list issued by the agency says the poles are in use at businesses or schools at Searcy (two locations), DeQueen, Nashville, Fort Smith, Newport, Murfreesboro, Hot Springs, Greenwood, Dover, Vilonia, Prescott, Melbourne, Camden, Monticello (two locations), Greenbrier, Bentonville, Vilonia, Cotter, Malvern and Little Rock.
According to the CPSC, some of the poles installed elsewhere have fractured or cracked, causing the pole to fall. The commission advises inspections of the poles by an engineer to look for cracks or fractures and, if needed, repair or replacement.
