Fire Guts Louisiana Arts Market, Nightclub
The fire department in Arnaudville, La., is investigating the fire that destroyed a building that housed a nightclub and arts center in Arnaudville, a St. Martin Parish town of 1,450.
Artist George Marks established The Town Market about six years ago, when he returned to Arnaudville because his father was ill. He named NuNu’s Nightlite and Cafe after his father’s nickname.
The building also housed Frederick l’Ecole des Arts, Frederick Stage, George Marks Studio and Deux Bayous Gallery. They drew artists and musicians, chefs and people interested in the arts to the town.
Marks says he will try to find another place to keep events going, at least in the short run. He says he’s not sure about long-term plans.
